We used to cycle past this stand all the time, and the many pairs of legs extending out from under the noren never failed to make us wonder. Located right along a busy highway, it seemed like an unlikely place for a popular lunch spot. We finally decided to stop by for a meal and we realised why there was always a crowd.
A standing noodle store that doesn’t even appear on Google Maps unless you specifically search for it, this one’s for the working man - hearty no-frills steaming hot bowls of soba or udon that won’t make a dent on your pocket. Pick your poison from racks of tempura featuring a variety of eggplant, pumpkin, squid, prawn and other fried delights. By the time you help yourself to a cup of water from the self-service dispenser by the side, the lady behind the counter would be calling out your order, ready for collection. Squeeze into an empty spot, break apart your chopsticks, itadakimasu, start slurping.
